Braidiant
The intelligent braiding device for hair salons
Braidiant is building smart hardware for one of beauty’s most recurring and labor-intensive services: hair braiding. Across the U.S., millions of people with textured hair spend thousands of dollars and up to eight hours per appointment on styles that are still done almost entirely by hand. Braidiant’s patent-pending product helps stylists serve more clients with less physical strain, bringing automation to a high-frequency salon workflow that has barely changed in decades.
Chisom Okwor is the founder of Braidiant and a master’s student in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Texas at Austin. Before building Braidiant, she braided hair through college while earning her degree in Computer Engineering, giving her firsthand experience with one of beauty’s most manual and physically demanding services. She has over four years of professional experience from Google, where she built navigation technology for autonomous cars, and is now bringing automation to textured-hair salons through smart braiding hardware.
